NLC: Lignite Production Down 5% Y-o-Y in H1 CY17

NLC India previously known as Nevyeli Lignite Corporation has witnessed decline in Lignite production during the first half of 2017.

The company’s Lignite production during Jan’17-Jun’17 was 134.03 Lakh Tonnes, which has fallen 5% Y-o-Y compared with 141.29 Lakh Tonnes during Jan’16-Jun’16, according to the Ministry of Coal report.

Lignite production has jumped by whooping 186% M-o-M to 25.23 Lakh Tonnes in Jun’17. Also, the production in the month of Jun’17 was 11% higher on the year compared with 22.68 Lakh Tonnes in Jun’16. Yet it was not enough to achieve the production levels attained during the first half of 2016.

Overburden Removal:
NLC India had removed 1078.2 LM3 (Lakh Cubic Metre) overburden during Jan’17-Jun’17 to produce Lignite. The overburden removal during this period was 14% more than the overburden removal of 947.36 LM3 achieved during Jan’16-Jun’16.

Power Generation:
NLC India has generated 9257.13 MU (Million Unit) power from its thermal power plants during Jan’17-Jun’17.

NLC India is planning to invest in renewable energy sector as the officials have cited that the production of Lignite and power generation from it will not sustainable for long. The company has recently won a 709 MW solar project in the latest solar auction held in Tamil Nadu.
