Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) is going to issue a fresh tender for hiring a contractor for operating its dedicated Pachwara coal mine at Jharkhand.
It took almost one and half year for the management to decide upon issuing a fresh tender, after the earlier tender hitting legal hurdles as four out of five bidders who failed to qualify had moved to the court, and subsequently resulting in the PSPCL management cancelling the tender.
The Coal Ministry had allocated the coal mine to PSPCL in Apr’15, but the mine has been shut since then as the management had failed to select an operator.
PSPCL has a total power generating capacity of 2,640 MW. It has three coal-fired power generating units— Guru Hargobind Thermal Plant, LehraMohabbat;Guru Nanak Dev Thermal Plant, Bathinda;and Guru Gobind Singh Super Thermal Power Plant, Rupnagar. These plants are supplied with around 7 MnT of coal from the Panem coal mines in Jharkhand against the total requirement of 13.6 MnT. The rest of the coal requirement is supplied by Coal India Limited.
After the Panchwara mine coming into operation, power generating cost will come down, to benefit the consumers.
