South Korean Iron Ore Import Up 20% in Jun’17

South Korea, the third-largest iron ore importer after China and Japan, have imported 6.33 MnT iron ore in Jun’17, according to the trade data released by South Korean Customs.

Iron ore imports have witnessed an increase of 20% M-o-M as it was 5.29 MnT in May’17. Similarly the country’s iron ore imports grew up by 25% Y-o-Y as it was 5.07 MnT in Jun’16.

During the first 6 months of 2017, the country imported 34.66 MnT iron ore, up by 1% Y-o-Y as it was 34.26 MnT in the same consecutive period last year.

The non-agglomerated iron ore (lumps and fines) import in Jun’17 was registered at 5.91 MnT, up13% M-o-M and 8% Y-o-Y compared with the Jun’16, The agglomerated ore (pellets and concentrates) import was registered at 0.42 MnT, up more than 8 times M-o-M and 83% Y-o-Y compared with the month of Jun’16.
