Taiwan: Ferrous Scrap Imports Down 14% M-o-M in Apr’17

Taiwan, one amongst the leading scrap importer has shown a marginal dip in its scrap imports so far in CY17. This could be attributed to the effect of higher prices of Japanese and USA scrap.

Taiwan imported 0.8 MnT ferrous scrap during Jan-Apr’17 against 0.83 MnT in the same period last year.

Taiwanese imports have registered fall of 14 % M-o-M in Apr’17 at 0.19 MnT against 0.22 MnT in Mar’17 and decline of 17.4% Y-o-Y against 0.23 MnT in Apr’16.

United States continues to remain largest scrap exporter to Taiwan  – United States continues to remain top in imports of Taiwan scrap with 0.08 MnT in Apr’17 showing decline of 33% M-o-M against 0.12 MnT in Mar’17.

Followed by Japan , second largest exporter has exported 0.04 MnT of ferrous scrap in Apr’17 to Taiwan with hike of 33% M-o-M against 0.03 MnT in Mar’17.

Other major exporters of scrap to Taiwan in Apr’17 were Australia with 0.02 MnT and Dominican Republic, Canada, South Korea each with stake of 0.01 MnT in Apr’17.
