Indian Met Coke Imports Rise 53.13% in May’17 M-o-M

Met Coke imports in India in May’17 were 53.13% higher than the imports in Apr’17, an analysis by CoalMint Research shows. In a similar trend, the May’17 imports were also higher by 44.12% than that in the corresponding month of the last year.

According to CoalMint Research, 0.49 MnT of Met Coke was imported in India in May’17, and the import volume was higher than that in the previous month, at 0.32 MnT. On a year-on-year comparison, the imports during the month under review were higher than the imports, at 0.34 MnT, in Apr’16.

The rise in the imports during the month could be attributed to the marginal improvement in buying as buyers in the country were tempted to import the material as the international offers were falling on declining Coking Coal prices.

The Krishnapatnam port had handled the largest volume of import traffic during the month under review; followed by the Dhamra and Paradip ports.
