Anthracite Coal offers have come down, following the falling trend exhibited by Coking Coal prices in international markets.
There exists a latent relationship between the prices of both the coal types, as Anthracite Coal could also be blended with Coking Coal during the coke producing process.
Of late, international offers for Anthracite Coal are reported at around USD 115/MT CFR India, which is lower by approximately USD 5/MT than that reported in the week last.

However, the lower offer is of not much relevance to the Indian market as the buyers in the country tend to use alternate fuels, over Anthracite Coal. Demand for the coal in India continues to be sluggish as a result.
In an international round-up, consumption of Anthracite Coal in Ukraine is heard to go lower to around 7 MnT in 2017 from 10.5 MnT in 2016; the difference will be catered through gas coal, which is available abundantly in that country.
The Russian mining major—Mechel—produced 448 ‘000MT of Anthracite Coal in Q1 2017, and that was up by 10.3% over the production of 406 ‘000MT in Q4 2016. The Q1 2017 production was also higher by 6.6% than the production of 420 ‘000MT in Q1 2016.
IMPORTS
The lackluster demand for the coal has kept imports of the coal in the country in check. According to the data collected by CoalMint Research, a meager volume of 93,900 MT of the coal was imported into India during the 1-30May’17 period.
The importers were: KIC Metaliks, IMFA and JSW Steel.
