Maharashtra Government is seeking the involvement of Centre for supply
of Coal from Coal India Limited (CIL) and Singareni Collieries.
Maharashtra State Power Generation Company (Mahagenco) is running short of 4 rakes of its daily domestic
coal requirement from Western coalfields affecting the generation of the
thermal plant with a capacity of 6,480 Mw losing a 1,000 Mw of daily generation
of thermal plant.
Government stated that Mahagenco
will reluctantly import coal or buy domestic coal from traders at higher prices
due to coal shortage leading to rise in power cost.
Shortage of coal rakes and inadequate coal rake movements have resulted
in power plants facing low coal stocks and Mahageno has a number a times raised
this issue with the coal companies. Parli, Paras and Khaparkheda plants power
generation with generation capacity of
above 1,800 Mw have been affected as the raw coal materialization for
Apr'11-Jan'12 to Mahagenco was only 53.28% from Mahanadi Coalfields.
The Mahagenco thermal power stations have also been affected. To avoid
loss of generation during the summers, the State has requested Centre to direct
Western Coalfields to send coal from the mines to railway sidings for transportation
to power plants on or before the 1st of next month.
