Petcoke imports in India in Apr’17 increased remarkably by 25.3% over the imports in Mar’17, according to the data compiled by CoalMint Research. In contrast, the imports in Apr’17 were lower than the imports in Apr’16 by 9.5%, CoalMint Research data further shows.
During Apr’17, 1.04 MnT of Petcoke was imported into India. The import volume during the month was higher than the imports during Mar’17 at 0.83 MnT; but lower than the imports in Apr’16 at 1.15 MnT.

The imports during the month under review had escalated due to the rising demand in the country. Cement producers have operated their plants at high rates, necessitating more Petcoke imports.
A country-wise comparative analysis shows that imports from USA during Apr’17 multiplied nearly by three-fold; while, that import Saudi Arabia decreased by more than four-fold.

A port-wise break-up of the Petcoke imports during Apr’17 shows that the Krishnapatnam port had handled the highest volume of import traffic; followed by the Kandla ad Karaikal ports.

The importers during the month were: Maihar Cement, Rain CII, HK Enterprise, Ultratech Cement, Ramco Cement, India Cement, JSW Steel, Shree Cement, among others.
