According to preliminary custom data, South Africa Ferro Chrome export witnessed a marginal decrease of 10% to 0.28 MnT in Mar’17 as compared to the previous month. In Feb’17, South African Ferro Chrome exports stood at 0.31 MnT.
However, there has also been an increase in South African Ferro Chrome exports by 7% Y-o-Y in FY17 against FY16. On quarterly basis, exports have witnessed a mere fall of 0.5% in Q4FY17 against Q3FY17.
It has also been seen that Komatipoort is the primary port for exporting Ferro Chrome followed by Richards Bay and Durban.
China’s Manganese Ore Imports
China stands out to be the largest importer of South African Ferro Chrome which imported 0.09 MnT in Mar’17 is followed by UAE, US and South Korea among others.
However, on quarterly basis, there has been a fall of 31% in Q4FY17 in the Chrome Ore imports by China whereas, in same period, imports by UAE is up by 67% Q-o-Q.
