South Africa, world’s 3rd largest iron ore exporter after Australia and Brazil have exported 5.82 MnT iron ore in Mar’17, according to the trade data released by South African Customs. Iron ore exports have increased by 25% M-o-M as it was 4.66 MnT in Feb’17.
On the other hand, South African iron ore exports have decreased by 11% for the month Mar Y-o-Y compared with Mar’16. In Mar’16 iron ore exports from South Africa was recorded at 6.57 MnT.
There was no change Q-o-Q for the first three months in 2017 compared with 2016 the country exported 15.84 MnT iron ore in Q 1 -2017 and 15.84 MnT in the same period last year.
In Mar’17, the agglomerated iron ore exports were at 3.36 MnT, up 7% as it were 3.13 MnT in Feb’17. On the other hand, non-agglomerated iron ore exports were registered at 2.46 MnT in Mar’17, up by 61% as it were 1.53 MnT in Mar’17
South Africa iron ore export to China higher 49% in Mar’17
The largest importer of South African iron ore China retains the first position for the month of Mar’17 as well. For the month China imported 4 MnT iron ore from South Africa compared to the quantity of 2.69 MnT in Feb’17
Hong Kong Imports 100% higher material M-o-M and 95% Y-o-Y
The Hong Kong have been the second largest importer of South African iron ore after China at 0.41 MnT. There was a increase of 100% in imports from South Africa M-o-M and 95% Y-o-Y.
Other major countries that South Africa exported iron ore to in Mar’17 are Netherlands, India, Italy and South Korea.
