Coal Ministry Asks CIL to Explore Nearby Export Markets

In a bid to dispose-off the surplus coal stock, the Coal Ministry has asked Coal India Limited (CIL) to expedite exports to the neighboring countries, including Bhutan.

Exporting coal to Bangladesh is not possible right now as the consumers there are not keen in using Indian coal. To actuate the Ministry’s directive, CIL is exploring all possible options, including Bhutan. However, nothing concrete has shaped up yet.

Exports have become necessary as massive coal stocks have accumulated in the country. CIL has around 69 MnT of coal stocks at pitheads.

Fiscal CIL Production (in MnT)
