Anthracite Coal Offers Stagnate; Indian Market Show No Sign of Improvement

Anthracite Coal offers have remained stable at the week-ago rates, with the Indian market continuing to sustain dull demand.

The latest offer for Anthracite Coal is assessed at USD 140/MT CFR India, unchanged from that assessed last week.

Demand in India has remained sluggish as buyers preferred alternate fuels over the coal variant. Despite Anthracite Coal could be used as a partial substitute with Coking Coal in the steel making process, there has been almost no affinity among Indian steel producers to use Anthracite Coal. Moreover, the future outlook for the Anthracite Coal market in India remains bleak.

IMPORTS

It is needless to say that Anthracite Coal imports have been very less in India on account of the lackluster demand in the country. During the 1-17Apr’17 period, only three vessels, carrying Anthracite Coal, reached India shores; with a cumulative volume of 71,250 MT.

The three importers were: JSW, Oswal and Electrosteel.
