According to recently released provisional data by Joint Plant Committee (govt. of India), Indian crude steel has recorded the growth of 9% Y-o-Y in FY 17 as compared to similar time-frame of previous year. In FY17, India’s crude steel production was recorded at 97.39 MnT against 89.79 MnT in the previous fiscal.
However, on monthly basis nation’s crude steel has surged by 2% in Mar’17 to 8.27 MnT against 8.11 MnT in Feb’17.
Although, on yearly basis, India’s crude steel output has reported a decline of 0.6% in Mar’17 as compared to previous year.The same stood at 8.32 MnT in Mar’16.

Crude Steel Output of Major Indian Steel Players in FY 17
Major Indian steel makers have registered significant increase in their crude steel output in FY17. JSW Steel’s crude steel output moved up by 26% Y-o-Y from 12.56 MnT in FY16 to 15.8 MnT in FY17. Tata Steel achieved crude steel output of 11.67 MnT in FY17 up by 17% Y-o-Y. On similar lines, Essar Steel’s flat steel production increased by 47% Y-o-Y to 5.6 MnT in FY17.
India’s consumption of finished steel Higher by 3% in FY17
India’s finished steel consumption increased by 3% Y-o-Y and was recorded at 83.93 MnT during Apr’16-Mar’17 against 81.52 MnT in the same period last fiscal.
India’s consumption of total finished steel has shown the sharp rise of 13.4% ,M-o-M to 7.98 MnT in Mar’17 against Feb’17.
