Russia Coal Imports Up 8% M-o-M in Jan’17

Russian coal imports witness growth both on the monthly and yearly basis.

Russian monthly coal imports recorded growth by 8% to 1.98 MnT in Jan’17 compared with 1.83 MnT in Dec’16, as per data released by Russian customs.

Yearly imports also increased by 15% in comparison with 1.72 MnT in Jan’16.

Grade-wise Imports:
During Jan’17, Russia imported 0.09 MnT of Anthracite coal, 0.06 MnT Coking coal, and 0.03 MnT Met coke.

Imports of Other grade of coal were recorded at 1.80 MnT in Jan’17 up by 8% compared to 1.66 MnT in Dec’16.

Major Exporting Countries:
Kazakhstan is the major coal exporter to Russia which caters more than 90% of its coal requirements in Jan’17. Exports from the country rose by 8% M-o-M to 1.86 MnT in Jan’17 compared with 1.73 MnT in Dec’16. Beside, Yearly imports increased by 13% in comparison with 1.64 MnT in Jan’16.

Ukraine and Azerbaijan supplied the remaining coal quantity in Jan’17.

Ukraine monthly coal exports have increased by 8% to 0.09 MnT in Jan’17. Yearly exports also rose by 13%.

Azerbaijan also witnessed a marginal increase in their monthly and yearly exports to Russia.
