According to USA customs data, USA flat steel imports which includes (7208 – HR coils/Plates,7209 – CR coils, 7210, 7212 GP/GC and 7225 electrical sheets) plunged by 4% ,Y-o-Y basis to 0.97 MnT in Jan’17 as compared to 1.01 MnT in Jan’16.
On monthly basis, nation’s flat steel imports moved up marginally by 1% to 0.97 MnT in Jan’17 against Dec’16.In Dec’16 the same stood at 0.96 MnT.
However,nation’s flat steel imports slumped significantly by 15% in 2016 to 11.84 MnT as compared to 13.91 MnT in 2015.
Grade-Wise USA Flat Steel Imports in Jan’17
If grade-wise analysis is made, then 7210 imports have been decline by 3.1% in Jan’17 against Dec’16 whereas grade 7208 and 7209 witnessed the growth in Jan’17 against previous month. Although, other flat steel grades imports like 7225 and 7212 inched down in Jan’17

Country-wise USA Flat Steel Imports in Jan’17
Canada was the major flat steel exporter to USA and shipped 2,90,613/MT in Jan’17 against 2,23,094/MT in Dec’16.Other major countries include South Korea, Vietnam followed by Taiwan and Mexico.
