Japan, second largest iron ore importer of the world imported 10.21 MnT iron ore in Jan’17 against 10.80 MnT in Dec’16. There was a decrease of 5% M-o-M.
Similarly on Y-o-Y compared to the Jan’16, iron ore imports were marginally down by 1.65%. In Jan’16, the country imported 10.38 MnT iron ore.
The non-agglomerated iron ore import in the month of Jan’17 was registered at 1 MnT against 9.45 MnT in Dec’16. The agglomerated ore imports were registered at 9.21 MnT in Jan’17 compared to 1.35 MnT in Dec’16.
Australian iron ore exports to Japan have witnessed a drop of 16% M-o-M which was 5.65 MnT in Jan’17 and 6.71 MnT in Dec’16. The nation exported around 5.68 MnT iron ore in Jan’16.
Brazil exported 2.58 MnT iron ore to Japan in Jan’17, up 10% M-o-M but down by 14% Y-o-Y
South Africa exported 0.58 MnT iron ore to Japan in Jan’17 compared to 0.41 MnT in Dec’16 significantly up by 40% M-o-M but 4% down Y-o-Y for the same month last year.
Canada turned out to be the fourth largest iron ore exporter to Japan in Jan’17 and exported 0.43 MnT iron ore against 0.68 MnT in Dec’16 down 37% M-o-M and it was down by 21 % Y-o-Y as well.
