Indian Iron Ore Movement Up 5% M-o-M in Jan’17

As per SteelMint’s analysis, iron ore movement across major producing states of the country was recorded at 11.4 MnT in Jan’17. The figure has been compiled on the basis of movements made via railways, trucks, Karnataka and Goa e-auction data and import data as per customs. The figure indicated does not include the captive iron ore movement of SAIL & Tata Steel and movement for exports.

State-wise iron ore movement analysis:

Iron ore dispatches from Odisha at 5.2 MnT in Jan’17 – On monthly premises, Odisha iron ore dispatches fell 9% M-o-M from 5.7 MnT in Dec’16 to 5.2 MnT in Jan’17. Among Odisha’s merchant iron ore miners – Rungta Mines dispatched highest quantity of ore followed by Serajuddin Mines and KJS Ahluwalia. Iron ore dispatch by Odisha based merchant mines fell further in Jan’17 and was recorded at 5.06 MnT against 5.42 MnT in Dec’16.

Chhattisgarh iron ore movement 2.1 MnT – Iron ore movement from Chhattisgarh fell from 2.22 MnT in Dec’16 to 2.11 MnT in Jan’17. NMDC’s iron ore supply from Bailadila mines remained stable on monthly premises in Jan’17. Movement for exports increased while iron ore procurement of outside C.G. based units from NMDC fell in Jan’17. In Jan’17, NMDC loaded 476 iron ore rakes from its Chhattisgarh mines.

Karnataka iron ore e-auction sales at 2.8 MnT in Jan’17 – Iron ore sales via Karnataka e-auctions stood at 2.8 MnT in Jan’17. NMDC sold 1.22 MnT iron ore via e-auctions. JSW Steel remained the largest buyer at 1.95 MnT followed by BMM Ispat.

Indian iron ore imports increased in Jan’17 – India imported 0.73 MnT iron ore in Jan’17. JSW Steel was the largest importer at 0.34 MnT followed by Jindal SAW. Pellet imports to India remained nil in Jan’17.

Iron ore exports from India down, pellet exports up in Jan’17 – Indian iron ore exports moved down and stood at 2.76 MnT in Jan’17. Vedanta was the largest exporter at 0.61 MnT followed by Fomento Resources and VM Salgaonkar. Indian pellet exports which were recorded at 0.89 MnT in Dec’16 increased to 1.17 MnT in Jan’17. JSPL was the largest exporter followed by KIOCL & Essar Steel.
