Port of Richards Bay – Operations May Halt Due to Bad Weather Warning

Operation at Richards Bay port may be disrupted due to bad weather forecasting.

Richards’s bay, South Africa’s premier bulk port and the most modern, is responsible for handling country’s major exports.The port operations are likely to be hit followed by bad weather warning issued by port authorities.

The port is about to encounter cyclone Dineo which is moving southwards from the Mozambique Channel and is expected to hit the port Thursday evening.High winds ranging from 45-60 knots are expected as a result.

The port authorities have advice all the vessel owners to ensure that vessels alongside the quay are properly moored and continuous monitoring of the moorings are done during the period of rough weather.

For vessels waiting outside the port expected to be anchored are also instructed that their position to be checked on a regular basis and their engines should be prepared for immediate action in case of dragging.
