India: OMC to auction 2,500 t of high-carbon ferro chrome

  • Base price of primary lot set at INR 120,000/t ($1,264/t) exw
  • Global sentiment weakens amid drop in Chinese tender prices

Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC) has scheduled an auction for 2,500 t of high-carbon ferro chrome across multiple grades and sizes (Cr: 53-64%, 0-100 mm) on 28 October 2026. The base price for the primary 500 t lot of high-carbon ferro chrome (Cr: 60-64%, 10-100 mm) has been set at INR 120,000/t ($1,264/t) exw.

The Indian ferro chrome market remained largely subdued in the assessment week ended 24 October 2026 amid festive holidays, with limited trading activity and buyers adopting a cautious approach. Also at OMC’s chrome ore auction on 22 October, 95,300 t of the 100,000 t offered was booked. Bid prices for most grades increased by 1-7% (INR 100-1,627/t) m-o-m, while a few grades recorded declines of 0.04-8% (INR 13-1,887/t), indicating mixed buying interest across grades.

Globally, China’s leading stainless steel producers, Tsingshan and TISCO, reduced their November 2026 high-carbon ferro chrome tender prices by RMB 200/t ($30/t) m-o-m on a 50% Cr basis. Tsingshan set its procurement price at RMB 7,595/t ($1,137/t), while TISCO fixed its price at RMB 7,395/t ($1,107/t), DAP, including taxes.

The upcoming OMC auction is therefore expected to provide a key indication of domestic buying interest and price direction amid subdued spot trading and mixed global signals. Market participants will closely monitor bid levels, with the outcome likely to influence near-term sentiment in the Indian high-carbon ferro chrome market.
