According to preliminary custom data, Brazil’s slab export surged 41%, Y-o-Y basis to 0.69 MnT in Jan’17 compared to 0.49 MnT in Jan’16.
On monthly basis, Brazil slab exports increased 19% in Jan’17 against 0.58 MnT in Dec’16.
In CY16 Brazil shipped 5.91 MnT of slab, down 10% against 6.59 MnT in CY15.
Turkey the largest importer of Brazil’s slab
In 2016, United States was the foremost buyer and imported 2.86 MnT, followed by Indonesia which stood at 0.61 MnT and Germany at 0.38 MnT.In 2015 ,major slab importing countries were United States,Indonesia followed by Germany, Mexico and Canada.

Slab Export Offers
Slab export offers from Latin America are assessed in the range of USD 425-430/MT, FoB basis.Whereas import offers from South East Asian Countries are in the range of USD 425-435/MT,CFR basis.
However, slab export offers from CIS countries are hovering in the range of USD 390-420/MT on FoB basis.
