- 1121 Grade (A) opens at INR 4,800-5,000/qtl, above last year.
- 1718 Grade (A) opens stronger at around INR 4,510/qtl in Amritsar.
India’s basmati paddy prices have regained strength after the recent correction, with premium 1509 grade prices returning to the INR 4,300-4,400/qtl range in key Punjab and Haryana mandis. However, rice parity, arrivals and miller buying remain important factors for the next move. Meanwhile, the focus is shifting towards 1121 and 1718 as fresh arrivals gain pace.
1509 prices recover amid heavy arrivals
Premium 1509 prices had moved from around INR 3,700-3,800/qtl at the beginning of the season to INR 4,600-4,700/qtl before correcting to INR 3,800-4,000/qtl. Prices have now recovered towards INR 4,300-4,400/qtl.
Despite sizeable arrivals, prices remain uneven depending on quality. Shahjahanpur recorded around 80,000-100,000 bags, while Garhmukteshwar saw around 80,000 bags. In heavy-arrival centres such as Shahjahanpur and Mainpuri, prices were reported around INR 3,571/qtl and INR 3,350/qtl, respectively. Rice parity remains a key check on 1509. Sustaining paddy prices above INR 4,600/qtl could be difficult unless rice prices and miller buying strengthen further.
1509 prices vary by quality and arrivals
In Haryana, 1509 hand-threshed paddy prices reached INR 4,451/qtl in Safidon and INR 4,446/qtl in Jakhal, while Patran was at INR 4,400/qtl. In Punjab, Budhlada and Nabha recorded INR 4,390 and INR 4,380/qtl, respectively. However, prices remained lower in heavy-arrival centres, with Shahjahanpur and Mainpuri reported around INR 3,571/qtl and INR 3,350/qtl, respectively, highlighting the impact of quality and arrival pressure on prices.
1121 and 1718 open stronger
The market is now closely watching 1121 Grade (A) and 1718 Grade (A) as arrivals begin. At Gannaur, 1121 hand-threshed paddy was reported around INR 4,951/qtl, with the opening range for good-quality material around INR 4,800-5,000/qtl. Last year, 1121 opened around INR 3,800/qtl. In 1718, good-quality material in Amritsar was reported around INR 4,510/qtl, while combine material was around INR 4,100/qtl. Last year, the variety started around INR 3,200-3,300/qtl.

Outlook
The basmati paddy market remains volatile, with rice parity, arrivals, quality and miller buying driving prices. 1509 has recovered to INR 4,300-4,400/qtl, but sustained gains above INR 4,600/qtl may remain difficult. 1121 and 1718 have opened stronger than last year, making fresh arrivals and quality key factors to watch. Overall, 1509 may remain range-bound, while 1121 and 1718 are likely to drive market direction ahead.
