- Basmati 1509 prices ease in several mandis amid heavy arrivals
- Strong buying interest keeps price corrections limited
Basmati paddy prices corrected d-o-d on 25 September after yesterday’s sharp rise, with the 1509 variety easing in several mandis due to heavy arrivals. However, strong buying interest continued to support prices despite rising supply across major markets.
Basmati paddy prices soften after sharp gains
Basmati paddy prices opened slightly lower on 25 September after the strong gains recorded a day earlier. However, the decline remained limited in several markets, and the overall market has not turned weak. Heavy arrivals pressured prices, but strong demand helped prices remain at relatively high levels.
In the 1509 variety, Bundi recorded the highest price at INR 4,421/quintal (qtl), followed by Dabri at INR 4,405/qtl, Tarawadi at INR 4,400/qtl, Chhori at INR 4,350/qtl, and Ratia at INR 4,335/qtl. Nissing was quoted at INR 4,321/qtl, while Hissar was at INR 4,301/qtl.
Prices decline in several key mandis
Some mandis witnessed noticeable corrections compared with 24 September. Ratia prices declined from INR 4,448/qtl to INR 4,335/qtl, down INR 113/qtl, while Nissing fell from INR 4,506/qtl to INR 4,321/qtl, a decline of INR 185/qtl. Tohana prices eased from INR 4,259/qtl to INR 4,212/qtl, while Gohana declined from INR 4,221/qtl to INR 4,121/qtl. At the same time, Samalkha moved higher from INR 4,071/qtl to INR 4,121/qtl, showing that buying interest remains present in selected markets.
Heavy arrivals continue across major markets
Arrivals remained substantial in several major mandis. Amritsar recorded more than 150,000 bags, while Khera received around 70,000-80,000 bags. Other large-arrival markets included Kaithal with around 60,000 bags, Kurukshetra around 40,000, Mathura around 40,000, Gadhmukteshwar around 38,000, and Hodal, Dibai, and Bulandshahr with around 30,000 bags each. Despite the heavy inflow, prices have not fallen sharply, indicating continued demand for quality 1509 paddy.
Outlook
The near-term trend will depend on the balance between heavy arrivals and sustained buying demand. If arrivals remain high while buyers continue to absorb supplies, prices may consolidate around current levels. However, continued declines in top bids could gradually put pressure on the market if arrivals increase further. For now, the market remains firm despite the correction.
