- Desi chana remains firm on lower supply, improved dal mill demand
- Moong dal prices weaken as arrivals increase in Rajasthan markets
Pulses prices across key Indian markets showed a mixed trend d-o-d on 25 September, with urad, tur, desi chana and moth remaining firm, while moong faced pressure. Limited availability of ready stock, lower arrivals, and improving buying interest from dal mills lifted prices of urad, desi chana, and tur, but masoor remained stable, while moong weakened.
Urad prices strengthen on limited availability
Urad prices continued to strengthen as dal mills increased buying amid limited availability. Arrivals of ready stock remained low, while Myanmar-origin supplies were also insufficient to ease the tightness. Urad prices in Madhya Pradesh were quoted at INR 9,800-10,200/quintal (qtl), up INR 400/qtl, while Rajasthan prices stood at INR 9,900-10,150/qtl and Maharashtra at INR 9,800-10,100/qtl.
Masoor remains stable despite lower arrivals
Masoor prices remained largely stable despite lower arrivals in major Madhya Pradesh markets, including Ganj Basoda, Sagar, Bhopal, and Mungawali. Improving demand provided some support, but expectations of fresh crop availability and imported Canadian masoor limited the scope for a sharp rise. Madhya Pradesh masoor was quoted at INR 6,900-7,100/qtl, Rajasthan at INR 6,800-7,000/qtl and Canadian masoor at INR 6,400-6,700/qtl.
Desi chana supported by lower supply
Desi chana prices remained firm as supplies declined and demand from dal mills increased. Prices in Rajasthan had reached around INR 7,050/qtl before settling near INR 7,000/qtl. Prices could move towards INR 7,500/qtl if supply remains limited. Rajasthan chana was quoted at INR 6,900-7,050/qtl, Madhya Pradesh at INR 6,850-7,000/qtl and Maharashtra at INR 6,800-6,950/qtl.
Tur prices remain firm
Tur prices strengthened across major markets due to limited availability. Madhya Pradesh tur was quoted at INR 8,900-9,200/qtl, Maharashtra at INR 8,800-9,100/qtl, and Chennai at INR 9,000-9,300/qtl. Lower domestic production and limited competition from new-crop arrivals supported prices, while the market is watching for further supply developments.
Moong faces pressure from higher arrivals
Moong prices weakened as arrivals increased in Rajasthan markets such as Jaipur, Nagaur, Dausa, Didwana and Khatu. Rajasthan moong was quoted at INR 8,200-8,600/qtl, down INR 100/qtl, while Madhya Pradesh prices stood at INR 7,800-8,200/qtl. Higher arrivals and subdued trading activity kept the commodity under pressure.
Moth, Kabuli chana, Rajma Chitra
Moth prices strengthened by INR 200/qtl in Rajasthan to INR 7,200-7,600/qtl despite new-crop arrivals, as supply pressure remained limited. Kabuli chana was largely stable at INR 7,200-7,300/qtl, while Rajma Chitra strengthened to INR 10,500-10,700/qtl due to limited availability of Indian-origin material.
Outlook
The pulses market is expected to remain firm in the near term, particularly for urad, tur, desi chana and moth, provided arrivals remain limited, and dal mill buying continues. Masoor may remain largely stable due to import availability, while increased moong arrivals could keep prices under pressure.
