India: Foundry scrap prices rise in southern markets, remain stable in west and east

  • Chennai, Coimbatore prices rise; rest remain stable
  • Firm buying interest and tight availability support prices

India’s foundry scrap market remained firm w-o-w on 22 September 2026, with prices increasing by INR 300/t for foundry plate and INR 200/t for low-Mn CR-busheling in Coimbatore. Chennai prices also increased by INR 200/t for both grades. Meanwhile, prices in Kolhapur and Kolkata remained unchanged at the previous week’s levels.

Market participants indicated that scrap availability remained relatively tight in southern markets, while buyers continued to focus on requirement-based purchases. Firm secondary steel prices and limited availability of alternative raw materials continued to provide support to seller offers.

Outlook

India’s foundry scrap market is expected to remain firm with a stable-to-positive bias in the coming week. The recent gains in Chennai and Coimbatore indicate continued support from tight scrap availability and steady buying interest. However, after the price increases witnessed in recent weeks, further gains may remain selective.
