India: NMDC advances commissioning of 2 MTPA Nagarnar pellet plant

  • Integrated chain to improve raw material utilisation
  • Shift towards higher-value iron ore products

NMDC has advanced the commissioning of its 2 MTPA pellet plant at Nagarnar, Chhattisgarh, with the successful light-up of the Straight Grate Indurating Machine on 28 August 2026. The company has commenced the dry-out process, marking a key step towards operationalising the facility.

The plant forms part of NMDC’s integrated 2 MTPA beneficiation and pelletisation complex, linked through a slurry pipeline, aimed at increasing the company’s value-added iron ore production. Once operational, the facility is expected to add 2 MTPA of pellet-making capacity, potentially improving NMDC’s ability to convert beneficiated ore into higher-value products.

While commercial production has not yet commenced, the milestone indicates that the project has moved into an advanced commissioning phase.
