- Base price of primary lot set at INR 119,000/t ($1,249/t) exw
- Domestic ferro chrome prices hold steady but demand weak
Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC) has scheduled an auction for 1,900 t of high-carbon ferro chrome across multiple grades and sizes (Cr: 53-64%, 0-100 mm) on 29 August. The base price for the primary 100 t lot of HC ferro chrome (Cr: 60-64%, 10-100 mm) has been set at INR 119,000/t ($1,249/t) exw.
At the past two key domestic auctions, bids have declined. Vedanta-FACOR’s ferro chrome auction on 25 August saw prices fall by INR 2,250/t ($24/t) from the previous auction for bigger lot material (Cr: 57% min, 10-150 mm), although the entire offered quantity was sold. OMC’s chrome ore auction on 19 August saw 68,800 t booked out of 104,700 t, while bids fell 1-2% for most grades.
In the spot market, HC ferro chrome prices were stable w-o-w at around INR 119,000/t ($1,249/t) exw-Jajpur on 26 August 2026. Weak export demand, with record-high Chinese ferro chrome production in July and lower tender prices for September, continue to weigh on sentiment, with the upcoming auction expected to test current price stability.
