Weekly round-up: Indian ferro alloys market sees mixed trends amid cautious buying and shifting sentiment

  • Manganese alloys see limited movement amid cautious trade
  • Ferro chrome prices decline amid weak buying interest

Indian silico manganese (60-14) prices were mostly steady with slight decline by INR 375/t ($4/t) w-o-w to INR 73,300-73,900/t ($768-774/t) across key markets. Despite MOIL reducing manganese ore prices for August deliveries by 4-5%, silico manganese prices remained mostly stable as balanced market fundamentals, ample spot availability and cautious buying limited price movement.

Meanwhile, HC 65-16 silico manganese export prices also dipped by $4/t to $887/t FOB Vizag/Haldia.

Ferro manganese prices hold steady amid weak exports

Indian ferro manganese (70%) prices remained unchanged at INR 78,400/t ($822/t) in Raipur and Durgapur. However, export prices of the 75% grade also dropped by $11/t w-o-w to $902/t FOB Vizag/Haldia.Domestic prices remained stable on balanced supply-demand conditions, while export prices declined as subdued overseas demand and competitive offers from major suppliers pressured Indian quotations.

Imported manganese ore prices continue to decline w-o-w

Imported manganese ore prices declined w-o-w. Australian Mn46% was at $5.2/dmtu, down by $0.04/dmtu w-o-w, Gabonese Mn44% prices stood at $4.9/dmtu, down by $0.1/dmtu, and South African Mn37% stood at $4.28/dmtu, down by $0.15/t w-o-w.

Additionally, Madhya Pradesh invited bids for the Bahiyatikur and Dhamani Nana manganese blocks under its Phase XX auction, aiming to enhance domestic manganese resource development and strengthen raw material security for ferro alloys.

Ferro chrome prices fall on bid-offer gaps

Indian high-carbon ferro chrome (HC 60%, Si: 4%) prices eased by INR 1,400/t ($15/t) w-o-w to INR 119,600/t ($1,253/t) exw-Jajpur.Prices fell as earlier higher offers failed to gain acceptance, prompting sellers to lower quotations to secure orders and maintain production operations amid weak buying interest.

Ferro silicon prices slide w-o-w on market cautiousness

India ferro silicon (Si 70%) prices dropped w-o-w by INR 400/t ($4/t) at INR 87,500/t ($917/t) ex-works Guwahati, while Bhutan prices fell by INR 500/t ($5/t) to INR 87,200/t ($914/t).The price correction was mainly attributed to sufficient inventories in the market and weak export inquiries, which continued to weigh on sentiment.

Noble alloys prices reflect mixed trends w-o-w

Indian ferro molybdenum prices increased by INR 59,000/t ($618/t) w-o-w to INR 4,334,000/t ($45,420/t) ex-works. Prices rose amid higher molybdenum oxide costs and firm global molybdenum prices, prompting producers to raise offers in line with elevated raw material procurement costs.

Indian ferro vanadium prices rose by INR 14,500/t ($152/t) w-o-w to INR 1,351,500/t ($14,164/t) ex-works Raipur, as tight raw material supplies and firm supplier offers continued to support the market.

India’s ferro titanium market weakened, with prices declining by INR 11,000/t ($116/t) w-o-w to INR 360,000/t ($3,780/t) exw-India. Market sentiment remained subdued as higher offers of up to INR 380,000/t ($3,991/t) exw failed to attract buying interest. Buyers resisted elevated quotations and restricted purchases to immediate requirements, resulting in limited spot transactions.

IEX spot prices drop w-o-w
