India’s metallurgical coke imports rose 44% year-on-year (Y-o-Y) to 2.91 million tonnes (mnt) during January-June 2026 despite the imposition of anti-dumping duties, as imported material continued to retain both cost and quality advantages over domestic supply. Higher hot metal production, rising pig iron exports and expanding Indonesian export capacity helped sustain import demand, reinforcing the country’s dependence on overseas met coke for blast furnace steelmaking.
