India: Prakash industry gets environmental clearance for Bhaskarpara coal mine to 1.2 MTPA

  • Bhaskarpara mine capacity rises 20%
  • MoEFCC clears coal output expansion

Prakash Industries Ltd (PIL) has secured environmental clearance (EC) from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) for expanding the production capacity of its Bhaskarpara coal mine in Surajpur, Chhattisgarh, from 1 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) to 1.2 MTPA, the company said in a regulatory filing dated 13 Jun’26.

Capacity expansion to support captive coal availability

The approval will enable the company to increase annual coal production by 0.2 MTPA, representing a 20% rise over the mine’s existing capacity. The additional output is expected to enhance coal availability for the company’s captive requirements and support its integrated steel and power operations.

MoEFCC grants environmental clearance

The company stated that the environmental clearance was granted by the ministry through a letter dated 12 Jun’26. The approval marks a key regulatory milestone for the proposed expansion and clears the way for capacity enhancement at the mine.
