- Tender prices unchanged amid balanced market conditions
- Weak stainless steel demand continues to cap market upside
China’s Tsingshan has kept its June’26 high-carbon ferro chrome tender price (Cr:50% basis) unchanged m-o-m at RMB 8,495/t ($1,249/t) DAP, including taxes. Additionally, TISCO also rolled over its tender price at RMB 8,295/t ($1,219/t) DAP, including taxes.
The stability in tender prices reflects balanced market conditions, as elevated input costs and firm smelter quotations countered subdued spot demand and cautious buying sentiment from the stainless steel sector. Firm chrome ore prices and steady producer offers continued to support the market, while weak downstream procurement activity and adequate raw material inventories at stainless steel mills restricted any significant upward movement in prices.
Meanwhile, China’s domestic ferro chrome prices (HC60%) fell by around RMB 240/t ($35/t) m-o-m in May’26 due to muted spot transactions and expectations of increased domestic and overseas supply. Higher production prospects in China, along with anticipated supply growth from South Africa and Zimbabwe, weighed on market sentiment.
