China: Coal, lignite imports surge m-o-m in Dec’25, but CY’25 records y-o-y fall

China’s coal and lignite imports rose sharply by 33% m-o-m to 58.59 mnt in Dec’25 from 44.06 mnt in Nov’25, as per GACC data. Y-o-y, imports increased by 12% from 52.4 mnt in Dec’24. However, on a cumulative basis, total imports in CY’25 declined by 10% y-o-y to 491 mnt, reflecting weaker overall demand and higher domestic coal production during most of the year.
