Weekly round-up: Indian ferro alloys prices show mixed trends amid balanced demand-supply dynamics

  • Silico manganese prices strengthen
  • Ferro chrome prices remain stable

Ferro silicon prices drop to over 1-month low

Indian ferro silicon (Si 70%) prices fell by INR 2,000/t ($22/t) w-o-w to INR 94,000/t ($1,046/t) ex-works Guwahati, while prices in Bhutan dropped by INR 1,300/t ($14/t) to INR 94,000/t ($1,046/t). Prices fell after Bhutan’s announcement of January offers, which stood at INR 94,000/t ($1,043/t) exw.

Ferro chrome prices inch down

Domestic high-carbon ferro chrome (HC 60%, Si: 4%) prices edged down by INR 700/t ($8/t) to INR 105,600/t ($1,175/t) ex-works Jajpur. Prices were stable as not much movement was seen in the market.

However, stainless steel prices for 304 grade HRC moved up by INR 6,000/t ($67/t) w-o-w to INR 190,000/t ($2,114/t) exw-Mumbai.

China’s Taiyuan Iron and Steel Corporation (TISCO) lowered its January ferro chrome tender price by RMB 200/t ($29/t) m-o-m to RMB 7,995/t ($1,143/t) DAP, inclusive of taxes.

Silico manganese prices rise w-o-w

Indian silico manganese (60-14) prices rose by around INR 975/t ($11/t) w-o-w to INR 70,800-71,400/t ($788-794/t) in Durgapur, Raipur, Raigarh, and Vizag. Prices were supported by buyer acceptance of higher offers, firm smelter pricing, rising manganese ore costs, tight availability, and a modest recovery in steel demand.

Meanwhile, HC 65-16 silico manganese prices remained steady w-o-w to $908/t FOB Vizag/Haldia.

Ferro manganese prices extend gains

Domestic ferro manganese (HC 70%) prices rose w-o-w by INR 200/t ($2/t) to INR 71,700/t ($798/t) in Durgapur and edged up by INR 200/t ($2/t) to INR 72,000/t ($801/t) in Raipur. Prices rose on sustained steel sector demand and limited spot availability, encouraging sellers to raise offers across key regions.

However, HC 75% ferro manganese prices also dipped by $1/t w-o-w to $895/t FOB Vizag/Haldia.

Imported manganese ore prices rise w-o-w

Prices of higher-grade imported manganese ore (Mn 37-46%) rose w-o-w. Mn44% from Gabon stood at $5.11/dry metric tonne unit (dmtu), up by $0.19/dmtu, Mn46% from Australia was at $5.47/dmtu CIF India, up by $0.21/dmtu, and Mn37% from South Africa was assessed at $4.34/dmtu, up by $0.06/dmtu w-o-w.

Eramet Comilog, a leading manganese ore exporter from Gabon, has set its February shipment prices at $4.90/dmtu CIF China for Mn44.5% lumps, and $4.70/dmtu for Mn43% chips, both up by $0.20/dmtu m-o-m.

Ferro molybdenum prices hit 2-month high

Indian ferro molybdenum prices rose by INR 225,000/t ($2,503/t) w-o-w to INR 2,950,000/t ($32,816/t) exw. The increase was driven by a rise in global market trends, particularly in China, along with higher molybdenum oxide prices and stronger LME molybdenum futures. Meanwhile, on the London Metal Exchange (LME), molybdenum futures increased by $0.93/lb w-o-w to $22.56/lb.

Ferro vanadium prices edge up

Indian ferro vanadium (FeV 50%) prices rose by INR 14,500/t ($162/t) w-o-w to INR 1,145,700/t ($12,754/t) ex-Raipur on 31 December on greater trade momentum, with a 15 t deal heard at INR 1,160,000/t ($12,913/t). The price rise was driven by tight availability and improved buyer acceptance for prompt requirements. The Chinese market remained stable amid balanced supply-demand, lending indirect support to prices.

Ferro titanium prices dip marginally

Indian ferro titanium prices (Ti 70%, 10-50 mm) edged down by INR 1,500/t ($17/t) w-o-w to INR 282,500/t ($3,139/t) exw on 1 January. Market activity stayed quiet with limited inquiries amid the year-end slowdown across domestic and global markets, and overall market sentiment showed no major change during the week.

IEX spot prices inch up w-o-w
