Anthracite Coal market in India has continued to bear a grim outlook, without any improvement in demand.
The latest import offers of the coal variant are assessed at USD 123/MT CFR India, which underwent no deviation from that in the week last.

Of-late, prices of Anthracite Coal have gone up in the international markets as demand became stronger. Power plants in Ukraine have been importing the coal in bulk quantities for building up adequate inventories to meet the peak demand during the winter season.
However, demand has remained sluggish in India as buyers continued to prefer alternate fuels over Anthracite Coal.
IMPORTS
Understandably, imports of Anthracite Coal into India have remained low due to the prolonged lackluster market condition.
During Sep’16, a modest quantity of 65,320 MT was imported into the country, according to CoalMint Research. However, the import volume in Sep’16 underwent an improvement of around 40.5% over the scanty imports in Aug’16.
Also, the imports in the country totaled 493,820 MT during the first half of FY17, CoalMint Research data shows.

The only importers during Sep’16 were: Rawmet Commodities, Jindal Power and Steel Limited, Arya Iron, Shyam Group and Rashmi Group.
