Baltic dry index slips as sentiments weaken across vessel segments

The Baltic dry bulk index decreased d-o-d by 3.8% (83 points) to 2,121 on 17 Dec. The index fell as weaker iron ore and coal chartering, combined with rising vessel availability across basins, pressured spot freight rates.

  • Capesize: BCI fell 3.7% (140 points) to 3,694.
  • Panamax: BPI decreased by 6.2% (97 points) to 1,480.
  • Supramax: BSI fell by 2% (27 points) to 1,308.
