Weekly round-up: Ferro alloys prices edge down w-o-w barring ferro silicon

  • Ferro chrome market weakens on slow trading
  • Ferro molybdenum prices hit 6-month low

Ferro silicon prices edge up w-o-w post Bhutan’s announcements

Indian ferro silicon (Si 70%) prices rose by INR 1,000/t ($11/t) w-o-w to INR 99,000/t ($1,100/t) exw-Guwahati; meanwhile Bhutan’s prices also stood at INR 99,000/t ($1,100/t), up by INR 500/t ($6/t). Prices rose w-o-w as Bhutan’s offers at INR 99,000/t boosted market sentiment and prompted marginal domestic price increases.

Ferro chrome prices fall w-o-w on sluggish buying

Indian high-carbon ferro chrome (HC 60%, Si: 4%) prices dropped by INR 1,200/t ($13/t) to INR 110,000/t ($1,223/t) exw-Jajpur, as per BigMint. Prices declined as buyers anticipated further drops, leading to a slowdown in trading activity.

Additionally, at Vedanta-FACOR’s ferro chrome auction on 1 December around 2,000 t of material was booked. The larger lot of low-grade material (Cr: 56% min, 10 -150 mm) achieved an H1 price of INR 108,600/t exw, and the smaller lot closed at INR 109,700/t exw — higher by INR 600/t and INR 1,200/t, respectively, from their base prices.

Silico manganese market remains dull

Indian silico manganese (60-14) prices slipped by INR 600/t ($7/t) w-o-w settling at INR 69,100-70,000/t ($768-778/t) across Durgapur, Raipur, and Vizag. According to industry participants, mills have reduced procurement volumes due to moderated steel production and cautious buyer attitude ahead of year-end schedules.

State-owned miner MOIL Ltd. has announced a 3% increase in manganese ore prices for December 2025, effective 1 December 2025. The revision applies to all ferro-grade ores-both above and below 44% Mn content-as well as the entire SMGR range, including Mn30% and Mn25% categories.

Ferro manganese prices mostly stable w-o-w

Indian ferro manganese (HC 70%) prices remained unchanged w-o-w at INR 72,000/t ($800/t) in both Durgapur and Raipur. Market sentiment remained cautious, with buyers resisting higher offers, which kept prices stable.

Additionally, HC 75% ferro manganese prices dipped by $1/t w-o-w to $892/t FOB Vizag/Haldia.

Imported manganese ore prices flat w-o-w

Prices of higher grades of imported manganese ore (Mn 37-46%) remained unchanged w-o-w. Mn44% from Gabon stood at $4.66/dry metric tonne unit (dmtu) w-o-w, Mn46% from Australia was at $5/dmtu CIF India and Mn37% from South Africa was assessed at $4.25/dmtu unchanged w-o-w.

Ferro molybdenum hits 6-month low on weak demand, softer LME prices

Indian ferro molybdenum prices dropped by INR 92,000/t ($1,022/t) w-o-w to INR 2,584,000/t ($28,700/t) exw. The decline was largely driven by weak end-user demand and falling LME prices, which kept overall domestic market activity subdued.

On the London Metal Exchange (LME), molybdenum futures fell slightly by 1.5% w-o-w to $21.46/lb on 2 December.

Ferro vanadium prices stable amid thin trading

Ferro vanadium (FeV 50%) prices dipped by INR 1,000/t ($11/t) w-o-w to INR 1,131,000/t ($12,632/t) ex-Raipur, pressured by subdued purchasing and cautious sentiment in the special steel segment. Weakening Chinese vanadium pentoxide (V₂O₅) prices also eroded cost support. In the near term, FeV prices are expected to stay range-bound, with a slight upside possible if domestic mills resume bookings or if Chinese V₂O₅ prices firm up.

Ferro titanium prices remain steady w-o-w

Indian ferro titanium prices (Ti 70%, 10–50 mm) held steady w-o-w at INR 288,000/t ($3,194/t) ex-works on 4 Dec. Market conditions showed little movement, with supply and end-user demand remaining evenly matched. Sufficient output from domestic producers supported price stability, while purchasing by steel mills continued at routine levels.

IEX spot prices increase w-o-w
Electricity prices on the Indian Energy Exchange (IEX) stood at INR 4/unit during 30 November to 5 December, up from INR 3.44/unit in the previous week.
