Baltic index rises 0.7% on Capesize strength

The Baltic dry bulk index rose by 0.7% (17 points) d-o-d to 2,600 on 02 Dec. Capesize gained on improved chartering interest, Panamax slipped amid weaker grain and coal activity, while Supramax stayed steady on balanced demand and supply. Iron ore futures also edged up as infrastructure demand and solid steel consumption helped offset weak economic data from China.

  • Capesize: The BCI gained 1.5% (70 points) to 4,633.
  • Panamax: The BPI fell 1% (19 points) to 1,915.
  • Supramax: The BSI eased by 0.07% (1 point) to 1,441.
