- Semis, longs imports fall sharply m-o-m in Jul’25
Nepal’s rebar prices fell by NPR 3,800/tonne (t) ($27/t) m-o-m to NPR 74,500-75,500/t ($530-537/t) for cash guarantee sales and NPR 76,500-77,500/t ($544-551/t) for bank guarantee ones in August 2025. The decline was largely driven by weak demand during the monsoon.
Imported long steel, sponge iron offers
Offers for imported Indian wire rod coils (WRCs) via the EAF/IF route dropped by $16/t m-o-m to $480-490/t exw-Durgapur. Around 1,000 t of wire rods were booked in August at $490-495/t CNF Raxaul.
India’s sponge iron export offers to Nepal also slipped by $1/t m-o-m to $331/t CPT Raxaul, amid weak buying interest.
Nepal’s product-wise import volumes
Nepal’s finished flat steel imports stood at 43,900 t in July 2025, up by 25% as compared to 35,200 t in June. Meanwhile, the same rose by 32% from 33,300 t in July 2024.
Semi-finished steel imports dropped by 48% in July to 7,800 t, as against 14,900 t in the previous month. Furthermore, semis imports dropped by 40% from 13,100 t in July 2024.
Finished long steel imports by Nepal declined by 62% in July to 6,300 t from 16,600 t in June. The same declined by 31% y-o-y.
