Base metals prices on the London Metal Exchange (LME) saw positive trends d-o-d, with zinc increasing by 0.96% to $2,737/tonne (t). Meanwhile, inventories at LME-registered warehouses registered positive movements d-o-d, with copper recording the highest gain of 0.95%.

In India’s non-ferrous metals markets, BigMint assessed domestic copper armature scrap at INR 803,000/t ex-Delhi, down by INR 2,000/t d-o-d. Aluminium Tense scrap prices remained stable d-o-d, with ex-Delhi at INR 197,000/t and ex-Chennai at INR 200,000/t.

China’s June aluminium imports surge 24% y-o-y
China’s aluminium imports soared by 24.1% in June 2025 compared to a year earlier, reaching 300,000 t. The sharp increase comes as domestic aluminium production faces supply restrictions and manufacturers seek to meet rising demand in sectors like construction and electric vehicles. Overall, first-half 2025 imports totalled 1.98 mnt, down slightly y-o-y.

India’s new quality control rules on copper cathode imports, effective since December, mandate BIS licensing for all suppliers. While aimed at ensuring quality, the Exchange warns the regulation may trigger supply shortages by discouraging foreign exporters. As copper demand in India is set to double by 2030, import declines raise serious concerns.
Australia extends timeline for aluminum extrusions inquiry
Australia’s Anti-Dumping Commission has extended key deadlines in its probe into aluminum extrusions from China. The Statement of Essential Facts will now be released by 21 July 2025, with a 20-day public response window. The final report and ministerial recommendation are due by 15 September 2025, replacing previous deadlines postponed from mid-July and early September.
