In a conversation with SteelMint, one of the senior government official from Indian steel ministry (asked not to be named) reported that department is not looking at reducing export duty on iron ore (which is at 30% currently). They are more keen to be used in domestic pelletization.
Slow down in spot iron prices in China and high freight and duty, exports of iron ore have almost dried out and expected to touch all time low in 2012 -2013.
One thing is sure looking at government's measure, Indian pellet industry will grow multi folds in coming years.
