Goan Government Stops Ore Transportation over Onset of Monsoons

With onset of monsoon season, Directorate of Mines & Geology (Govt. of Goa) has stopped iron ore transportation through roads.

Goa DMG in its issued notification yesterday (27 Jun’16) stated regarding stoppage of transportation by road during monsoon season.

Transportation of ore by road during monsoon season may jeopardize the safety of citizens using the road network in the vicinity of the mining leases or transportation route of such minerals. Therefore in the interest of public safety, the transportation of mineral by road is hereby stopped until further orders.

This stoppage however shall not affect the transportation of mineral from jetties via barges till till port by the lease holders, exporters or bidders.

As per customs data maintained with SteelMint, last iron ore export vessel from Goa arrived at berth on Mormugao port on 18 Jun’16. And after this no iron ore export vessel has been seen so far in other half of the month.
