JSW’s Mega Steel Project in Jharkhand Granted EC

The ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) has granted environment clearance to JSW Steels proposed 10 MnT pa integrated steel plant and 900 MW captive power plant (CPP) in Sonahatu Block in Ranchi district of Jharkhand.

In March last year, the company had applied for grant of EC and the Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC) under the MoEF had considered the proposal on 30 Dec’15 and then on 30 Apr’16. After detailed deliberations the EAC had recommended the ministry to grant EC to the project.

As per the proposal, JSW steel would set up the 10 MnT pa steel project at an area of 3,800 acres. The integrated steel project includes setting up of 29.0 Mt/ year Beneficiation Plant, a 8 MnT pa pellet plant, 6 MnT pa coke oven plant, 3X5200 m3 Blast furnace. The Company will set up a 900 MW coal fired captive power plant and a township. The company plans to invest INR 35,000 crore in the project.

The phase-I of the project will employ 5,000 people which will be doubled in the second phase.
