Brazil government is planning to levy 25% import duty on various steel products that will include steel, pipes and long products to support the local industries.
Steel products affected include hot rolled coil, heavy plate, wire rod, pipes and drawn products.
Brazil's Chamber of Foreign Trade (Camex) published the following list of the steel-sector products that will be subject to increased import tariffs if approval for the measure is achieved.
The list below includes the specifications of the product, the current import duty it attracts, and the planned new tariff.
FLAT STEEL
• Hot rolled coil between 3mm and 4.75mm thick – 12% – 25%
• Hot rolled coil less than 3mm thick and with a minimum yield point of 275 MPa (Megapascals) or higher-10%-25%
• Hot rolled coil less than 3mm thick-12%-25%
• Heavy plate more than 10mm thick -12%-25%
LONG STEEL
• Non-alloy steel wire rod of less than 14mm diameter and containing less than 0.6% of carbon by weight – 0% – 22%
• Alloy steel bars and rods- 14% – 25%
TUBES AND PIPES
• Tubes and pipes, non coated, of external diameter not exceeding 229mm – 16% – 25%
• Tubes, pipes and hollow profiles of cast iron – 12% – 25%
• Carbon steel welded tube and pipe of circular cross-section for gas and oil pipelines – 0% – 25%
