Indian Steel Ministry Secretary Visited Secondary Steel Hub, Raipur

Its a 1st ever historic visit by Ms. Aruna Sundarajan, Steel Ministry’s secretary, Government of India, to Indian secondary steel industry hub, Raipur.

Steel Ministry’s Secretary, Ms. Aruna Sundarajan yesterday visited Siltara, Raipur, a secondary steel hub of India. The objective of this meeting was to understand the issue related to secondary steel industry and sponge iron plants.

She met delegates of sponge iron and steel units based in Chhattisgarh .

Major issues raised during the interaction were raw material cost and policy to secondary steel producers; to make the secondary sector competitive.

Detailed presentation was given by president of CGSIMA (Chhattisgarh Sponge Iron Manufacturers Association), Mr Vijay Jhanwar along with few delegates from industry. Ms. Aruna also visited two major steel units in the city.

Mr. Ramesh Agrawal, Director of API Ispat stated, “This has happened first time in history. She has observed the units minutely and assured us to prepare a draft of challenges faced by secondary steel units. By this activity, the distance between government and secondary industry has narrowed down”.
