Mineral Block auction: IBM, MoEF Asked to Expedite Clearance Processes

All successful bidders issued Letter of Intents (LoIs).

Bhubaneswar:  The Union Mines secretary Mr. Balvinder Kumar has directed the Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM) to expedite the processing of the mining plan of Ghoraburhani-Sagasahi iron ore block in Odisha within 2 months. This iron ore block was the only mineral block the Odisha government had put on auction which was won by Essar Steel.

According to sources the Controller General of IBM has assured the ministry that the draft mining plan of the mineral block will be approved within a month.

In the Post Auction Mining Clearances and Approvals Facilitator (PAMCAF) meeting held on 10th of this month in New Delhi the Odisha Director of Mines Mr. Deepak Mohanty informed the mines secretary that letter of intent (LoI) has already been issued to the highest bidder and at the same time the draft mining plan has also been submitted to the IBM.

On the other hand government representatives of Chattisgarh and Jharkhand have appraised the mines secretary that Letter of Intent ( LoI) has already been issued to the respective highest bidders. While Chattisgarh has successfully auctioned 2 Lime Stone blocks and one Gold block the Jharkhand government has auctioned the Harihasura I, II lime stone blocks. The Jharkhand government has informed that the successful bidders have already submitted Scheme of Prospecting to the IBM and the exploration process will be completed after grant of necessary clearances.

It has been decided in the meeting that all the successful bidders will be invited to attend the next PAMCAF meeting expected to be held in July’16 to hear their issues regarding the clearance processes of the mining blocks.
