India’s ship-breaking melting scrap prices in Alang, Gujarat, remained stable d-o-d on 6 Dec’24. According to BigMint’s assessment, HMS (80:20) stood at INR 34,800/t ($411/t) ex-yard. Sources informed that although semi-finished steel prices rose in the region, Bhavnagar-based mills showed a preference for domestic scrap, which was cheaper than material from Alang’s ship-breaking yards. This prompted scrap suppliers to keep prices steady.
