Australia: Rio Tinto suspends operations at Simandou after fatal accident

Australian miner Rio Tinto suspended operations at its SimFer port site, part of its Simandou iron ore project in Guinea, following the death of a contractor’s employee. An investigation is underway with partners and authorities. Simandou holds a world-class reserve of high-grade iron ore, estimated at approximately 1.5 billion tonnes. Rio Tinto, the majority shareholder, serves as the managing partner of Rio Tinto SimFer.
