Anthracite Coal Offers to India Rise by USD 3/MT Amid Persistence of Weak Demand

Affinity for importing Anthracite coal remained weak among Indian buyers.

Hence, the news of a meager rise in international offers seems not to be worrisome for buyers in the country.

Russia-origin offers have risen by around USD 2/MT on FoB basis, additionally, an increment of around USD 1/MT in freight rate has pushed up CFR India value by USD 3/MT, according to a reputed importer. The latest offers are thus at around USD 96/MT,CFR India.

In the country, abundance of low-priced alternate fuels, like Petcoke and other forms of coal, has eroded demand for the high-priced Anthracite coal. Imports hasve lessened significantly as a result.

During Mar’16, only 64,900 MT was imported into the country. Two importers -: Jindal Steel &and Power Limited and Shyam Group had imported the respective quantities of 38,500 MT and 26,400 MT during the month, according to SteelMint Research.
