Ship-breaking melting scrap prices in Gujarat’s Alang market increased by INR 500/t d-o-d on 17 Aug’24. HMS (80:20) prices were assessed at INR 34,000/t ($405/t) exy. There is currently a shortage of scrap in the market, and the supply of imported scrap is insufficient to meet needs of mills. Only 15-20 ships were available for dismantling at the Alang shipbreaking yard, contributing to limited scrap supply. Thus, suppliers have raised their offers today.
