Bhubaneswar: Tata Steel has secured Environmental clearance for the mining expansion project of its Sukinda Chromite mines situated at Kalarangiata, Kaliapani and Mahulakhal village in Sukinda Tahasil of Jajpur district. The union Ministry of Environment and Forest has cleared the proposal of the company on 6th of this month.
The company intends to expand the chrome ore production from 0.95 to 2.4 million tonnes per annum and pyroxenite ore from 0.25 to 0.5 million tonnes per annum. The company has also plans to boost production of Chrome concentrate from 0.1 to 0.6 million tonnes. The total mining area is 406 hectares under which, 73.6 hectares are forest area.
The company had submitted the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report to the ministry on 10th of January this year and the expert appraisal committee of the ministry had considered the proposal of the company during 13th to 15th March for Environmental clearance.
