Cause of low coal production

US coal production has decreased significantly in CY15 on the backdrop of persistent downfall in gas prices, which is a cheaper source of energy than coal. This is ultimately leading to opening of more and more gas operated power plants. Also, stern policy and parameter against air pollution by US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) have compelled power players to use gas and other renewable sources of energy.
